Get to know AndyWhat are you doing in school?
"I’m studying Vocal Performance and am pursuing a Spanish minor at the University of Maryland." How long have you been singing in choirs? "I’ve been singing since I was in elementary school, and have been ever since!" What is your favorite musical memory? "I remember in elementary school, we would hear the high school’s Madrigal singers and I had always wanted to be a part of the group. Then, when I got to high school, I was!" Do you have any special talents or interests outside of music? "I played football and lacrosse in high school and was a captain my junior and senior year. I’ll always have a passion for sports and competing. I also enjoy arranging, drawing, and sleep!" Who is your favorite composer? "Ēriks Ešenvalds! My junior year of high school, we sang Northern Lights and I fell in love with the music; singing the piece was my first exposure to Ešenvalds. And then my senior year we sang Only In Sleep, in which I was able to solo for part of piece, which was an amazing and humbling experience." Who's your favorite non-classical musical artist? "At the moment my favorite artist is probably is Twenty One Pilots. I have a playlist called 21 & older on my Spotify that is dedicated to their great music and my favorite bops." What song have you not been able to stop listening to (classical or not)? "I haven't stopped listening to Remember Me by UMI. I love R&B and it's a song I go to whenever I want some peace and chill." Breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast? "Breakfast for dinner. Duh." If you could turn anything purple, what would it be? "I'd turn clouds purple because that'd be dope, especially during a thunderstorm." What's your favorite holiday and why? "Christmas because that's when Jesus and my little brother Sam was born." Are you a morning person or a night owl? "Night owl for sure. I don't sleep unless it's a nap." If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? "Jesus Christ. Mic drop." |
Andy Boggs is a sophomore Vocal Performance major at the University of Maryland studying with Gran Wilson. He currently sings with the University of Maryland’s Chamber singers and DaCadence, an a cappella group on campus. He is also part of an all-male a cappella group, Embassy A capella, that is active during the summer. He was awarded with the National Choral Award his senior year of high school. Additionally, he participated in the Maryland All State Chorus in 2017 & 2018. In high school, he was involved in theatre, including credits as the leading male roles in The Addams Family and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. With the University of Maryland's Opera Chorus, he was in Street Scene and Ariodante, and will also star in Down in the Valley as the leading tenor role with UMD's OperaTerps.
