Get to know NicoleWhat are you doing in school?
“I just recently graduated from Gettysburg College with a music major with a minor in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies" How long have you been singing in choirs? “Pretty much as long as I can remember! I started out in my church choir at a very young age” What is your favorite musical memory? “My first year at college the choir went on a tour to Nicaragua. On the very last night we stayed at this resort on the laguna, and I remember just standing there by the edge of the water with some of my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, admiring creation. Then we couldn’t help but burst out in song worshipping God for what He has made.” Do you have any special talents or interests outside of music? “Well Jesus is my number one interest forever and always! But I’m also a pretty decent badminton player. Some things I absolutely love are swing dancing, hugging/cuddling, tea, penguins, otters, and Phantom of the Opera.” Who is your favorite composer? “I’ve been really into Indonesian composers recently, so I’d have to say F. X. Soetopo. I just love the drama he brings to his music and how he conveys the meaning and emotion of the text so vividly through his melodies and harmonies.” Who's your favorite non-classical musical artist? “Right now I’d have to say it’s Ariana Grande. Or Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who composed the music for the broadway musical Anastasia.” What song have you not been able to stop listening to? “Recently I'd have to say either Reckless Love by Cory Asbury.” What's your favorite book you've read? “Either Jane Eyre or Invisible Cities.” Velvet or flannel? Why? “Flannel! Cause who wears velvet anymore?” What's your favorite sports team? “I’m not really a sports person, but I’ve inherited some enthusiasm for the Green Bay Packers from my family. But I also secretly and nonchalantly support the Penguins in hockey because I just really like the animal.” On a long road trip, would you rather an eagle or a chinchilla pick the music, and why? “I’d let the chinchilla pick the music. They may be tiny but I bet they got banging musical tastes.” What's your favorite thing about singing in Lux? “I love being in a choir where everyone is so committed to being the best we could possibly be. The passion for music and for the group itself is unrivaled.” What's your favorite song you've sung with Lux? “Probably Christus Factus Est [by Anton Bruckner]. That climax though!” What's the most interesting fact about you? "I’ve been to 22 countries!" |
