So, you're interested in joining Lux!How exciting! We're always on the lookout for talented and passionate singers with a love of choral music. Lux does a lot of things differently than your typical choir might (besides the fact that our conductor sings with the group!). We vote on our repertoire as a group, and are always working together to become more efficient, more musical, and keep the whole process enjoyable! We're looking for singers ready to hop on board, get involved, and interact with what we're doing together. If that sounds up your alley, then let's get started!

"I don't think I've ever been in a group with such passionate and driven people."
"What am I getting myself into?"
Lux is typically a twice-a-week commitment for a period of 1-2 months at a time. We run on a rotation of two seasons annually: one in the Winter (usually mid-December through mid-to-late January), and one in the Summer (usually mid-to-late May through mid-to-late July). We typically rehearse twice a week leading up to a performance and/or recording. We regret to say that these are not paid positions (not yet, at least — we're working on it). As is typical of this type of ensemble, you are expected to walk through the door with music learned, ready to begin polishing in rehearsal.
Audition Process
Because we typically pull from a core roster of about 20 singers, we accept auditions on a rolling basis, and review materials periodically as needs arise. We keep all of these auditions, with their pre-screening videos, in a database. When we need to fill a slot for, say, a soprano, we'll go to the database and review potential candidates. Once we've narrowed down our search, we will email you to schedule an in-person audition. All this to say, it may be a bit of time before you hear from us. That doesn't mean we didn't like your pre-screening, though — it may be that we haven't had an opening for your voice just yet! We will be sure, though, to notify you that we received your application.
How to Apply
To send in your application, all you'll need to do is fill out this form. Easy as that! Before you get started, though, you'll need the following:
Remember: center yourself and breathe. We truly want to see you succeed as much as you do — maybe more! Be sure to set up your recording device far enough away that we get a sense of how your voice carries in the room. Most importantly, don't get discouraged if the process gets to feel overwhelming. Remember, we started as a bunch of high schoolers hanging out and making music. We're interested in who you are today as a musician.
- Oddly enough, a Google account. This allows you to upload the files in the form. (Required)
- A video of you singing a piece that represents your voice as an ensemble singer well. This can be accompanied or a cappella, though we ask that you not accompany yourself. (Required)
- A second video of another piece of contrasting style. This, too, can be accompanied or a cappella, though we still ask that you not accompany yourself. (Optional)
- Your performing résumé in PDF form. (Optional)
- Your head shot. (Optional)
